Hi, I wanted to start blogging by writing something about my school St.Xavier's, Durgapur. Last night I came across a site in orkut where different students have commented on the teachers of my school. And I am repeating the phrase "my school" as I am really proud to nave studied there. Suvroda has written an article regarding the particular orkut page I am talking about in "suvrochatterjeebemused.blogspot.in" and he has commented that he wished he had resigned earlier. I do not agree with suvroda as a few students can't defame the glory of such an institution and it's teachers. I can only say that the students of today are missing on teachers like you and it's sad that they don't even know what they have missed. And by referring to you I refer to all those teachers ( Mrs.chappel, Fr.Watier, Fr.Honore, Fr.Wavreil, Mrs. D'souza, Mrs.Malini Ramdas, Mr and Mrs. Roy, Mrs.Chowdhury,Mrs.Jhunu Banerjee, Mrs. Nandini Banerjee, Mrs.gupta, Mrs.mukherjee, Mrs.Bhowmik, Shanti Sir.......the list is endless) who have made the institution what it stands for "like gold in a furnace". They have not only been the teachers who have helped me to compete in the professional world but they have also been my guardian angels. I remember an incident dated somewhere in 1993 when an earthquake had affected the western and southern parts of our country. Mrs. bhowmik, our geography teacher, had set an example in what we call in cricket "leading from the front". She had donated the amount of money that she had kept aside for the forthcoming durgapujas to the President's Relief Fund. This provoked us , I don't know about others though. I personally cut down on some of my expenses and had asked my dad to send that amount to them. There are n number of such incidents that make me feel proud of my school and my teachers.
Coming to the campus, very few schools in India can boast of a campus as ours. A huge playground with greenery all around for a healthy environment. A well maintened auditorium and T.T room . A perfect place for an all round development.
And last but not the least the "LIBRARY". From the punch, asterix, tintin to encyclopedias on war , machineries, animals to adventure books to science fiction to classics. You name it and it's there. My favourite was the biography and the adventure section. And who other than Suvroda as a librarian.
In all I can only say, repeating my words as a child, "my school is the best" and i condemn all those who try to deglorify my school, St. Xavier's, Durgapur.
